The Cliffdweller Tribe is a tribe of elves who retain some semblance of their past. Despite modern luxuries, they still choose to live within the cliffs where they originally gained their name. Some of the modern luxuries have been installed, such as a few places where electricity is used.

The Cliffdwellers subsist primarily upon sea life such as fish, crab, and seaweed. They work closely with humans, and some of the humans they work with are even considered members of the tribe.

Digger said that it sounded a great deal more like we were talking about a person than an animal friend. I know some of the humans worship the sea as a kind of god, and he suggestted that we do that to an extent. It was definitely one of our odder conversations, but very interesting.

So what'd Digger say, huh?

Actually, I sorta get what she's talking about. I remember the first time I was trying to explain what I love about the sea to Digger, and I kept talking in terms of Her, not it. It's kinda weird. I don't know about that whole bonding thing though. I think I'm gonna talk to Digger about it. If he says anything interesting, I'll post it here.

I was watching Surf do his thing on the waves again this evening, and I got to thinking. We always used to believe that our animal-friends were the dolphins, even though we don't have the same bond with them that Oceancrest says the CatFolk do with their cats. If I'm remembering my history correctly, we never did have that sort of bond, with the exception of a slight few of us who could bond with any animal we chose.

Anyway, the point I'm ultimately coming to is: what if we've been wrong all this time? What if, for us, it's never been about being friends with the dolphins? We all agree that the Sea is a tempestuous Lady, very jealous in Her favors. What if it's more than that. What if we are Her friends, instead of the friends of Her Children?

These questions will probably make no sense in the morning. High Ones, they make little enough sense to me now. I don't even know why I bother to write them down, except that it's a habit I've had since I was a child. Thankfully, Surf has learned to deal with these fits of . . . creativity? And now, if no one minds, I'll scoot off to bed before I can figure out more stupid questions to ask.

After he saw what the Wooddwellers and CatFolk were doing, Chief Tidalwave decided that we, too, should have our own journal. Although I am not exceptional at building websites, the task fell to me. I considered putting a picture of Surf up at the top, but decided that perhaps not everyone would appreciate it. So I refrained.

On the whole, I'm very pleased with the way it has turned out, though I really don't like the explanation of our tribe that Chief Tidalwave insisted on. Maybe I'll change that sometime soon.
